Step-up transformer: The step-up transformer converts the low voltage of the primary coil into higher voltage in the secondary coil. When the magnetic flux is produced in the primary coil across the secondary coil, the number of windings which cut the lines of the magnetic flux in the secondary coils is more as a result a higher voltage is produced in the secondary windings.
Step-down transformer: The step-down transformer converts the high voltage of the primary coil into lower voltage in the secondary coil. In such transformers, the number of windings in the primary coil is more as compared to the number of windings in the secondary coil.
